Birthday Traditions

It isn’t everyday a person turns eight years old. In fact, I’m not even sure she’s really allowed to turn eight already! But she assures me that’s the way birthday works, so I’ve got to believe her.

Today, after eight amazing years our little baby turned into a bright your lady in the blink of an eye.

She has always had the biggest heart and the biggest smile, but watch out! If she doesn’t feel like she’s being treated respectfully, she’ll let you know! This little girl amazes me every day!

When she was two, she caught a nasty bug that required a couple surgeries. She terrified me to no end, but we made it through and saw her vibrant smile again in no time!

She has flair. A flair for the theatrical mostly; she loves to dress up and play imaginative games with her siblings. It’s so much fun to watch.

Today I look back on all those years, I dream about future years, and I do what I can to make her feel special.

We have one birthday tradition in our family. For every meal and snack I put a candle in the food and sing happy birthday to the birthday child. It started a year ago, roughly, when a birthday came before the party, and I really had nothing else planned for that day, but still wanted to make our kiddo feel special. Since then they all remind me to do the candles for someone’s birthday.

Today, the smiles were huge! I could tell she felt extra loved today when so much special attention and care was directed at her. Tomorrow we’re walking over to Starbucks so she can get her birthday drink. Another special treat we do on birthdays (though Agatha only decided this needed to be a tradition today)!

Do you have ay birthday traditions? What’s the one thing you’ve ever done for your child on their birthday that made them fell extra special, and full of love?
