Now That’s Music to my Ears

Yesterday we experienced the triumph, the tribulation, the #unforgettable, the joy one year in the making. The humble piano recital.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESElla and Cordelia have been taking piano lessons every Tuesday for about a year now, they practice (almost daily, see “Music Lessons“) and are so proud of what they have managed to accomplish. We brought our camera so we could share their music with you, here is a link to the recital video!

Cordelia was given the task of performing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and she did fantastic!

In the last week before the recital practice got more and more intense, previously I would sit on the bench and hold my hands over hers and help her “play”, this is actually fun for me as it let’s me learn the piano with her. The week ended with her playing by herself with an intensity and focus that is insipring to watch. On the day of the recital she marched to the piano, Sarah in tow – as this was a deal the two of them made, played her song and turned back to me with the BIGGEST smile I have ever seen on her face.

Ella was to perform two songs, an honour by looking at the recital program as only a handful of performers played two songs.

All her practice showed through and again a very very proud child walked way from the piano. She helped me edit the video this morning and told me “My mistakes don’t seem so bad now.” I reassured her that any mistake she made was not likely to be noticed by others who didn’t know the songs and that in the heat of a performance little things seem much worse than they are. I think her watching herself play afterwards and talking about her mistakes gave her a little confidence boost for the next recital.

Agatha and Brom watched from the sidelines, clapping loudly for each performer.

It was an #unforgettable day for everyone!

I have heard it said that adults don’t regret their parents having them stick with music lessons, but many regret that their parents let them quit. Looks like your family had a great day.
